Old Convent is located near the village of Borenore, a historic and quiet rural place only 10 minutes drive from Orange. Old Convent comprises four buildings and is secluded amongst lightly wooded grazing country less than a 2 minute drive from Borenore.
The café building was completed in 2001. Designed by local architect and artist Tim Winters, the building takes advantage of the rural views stretching to Mount Canobolas. The BYO café is open between 9.00 am and 4.30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Seating is limited to around 35 people so feel free to phone ahead on 63652420 to make a booking. The menu covers a variety of meals including brunch, lunch and a good selection of baked items. The menu changes regularly according to local ingredient availability and price.
The oldest building, a small two-bedroom cottage, was build around 1860 and is let on a short-term basis as self-contained accommodation. The original convent was established in this building by the Josephite nuns and was the only local primary school for many years.
The former church was built during the 1890's and now provides an interesting venue for functions at all times of the week. The church is in original condition with vaulted timber ceilings and wide polished floorboards. The space is large enough to seat seventy people comfortably and can be easily set up for smaller groups.
The 'new' convent building was constructed during the 1920's and incorporated the single room school that was in use until the 1970's.The school room is attached to the café and is used to seat café patrons.
